This small and simple village near Kovalam is one of the highly frequented sites of the region after the breathtaking beaches. Located two km from Kovalam town, Vizhinjam is popular as a fishing village. In the past few years, it has emerged as the busiest fishing harbour in Thiruvananthapuram district, which keeps humming with activities all the day.
The most fascinating feature of this small and peaceful village is the unique Marine Aquarium located near Theatre Junction. This aquarium is established in a shabby building yet is a treasure of marine products. One can spot clown-fish, moon wrasse, squirrel-fish, lion-fish, butterfly-fish, giant turtles, trigger-fish, aggressive surgeon-fish, deadly piranhas, sharks and many such rarest of species in this aquarium. Apart from that, the spellbinding images of Jesus Christ, Virgin Mary, and various Hindu Gods and Goddesses (made of pearl) are also displayed here.
The village is favorite among the Hindu devotees as well because of its old Cave Temple, dating back to the 18th century. This temple is famous for its semi-carved idol of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
