The Alappuzha beach is particularly popular for relaxing holidays and water sports facilities for adults and children. Located at a distance of 85 km from the Kochi Airport and 5 km from the Alappuzha station, the beach is also frequented for the pier that juts out into the sea. This pier is believed to be more than 140 years old. The Vijaya Beach Park, adjacent to the beach, is equipped with various water sports facilities. Basking and boat races are the most popular activities here.
Varkala beach, 42 km from Thiruvananthapuram and 37 km from Kollam, is highly frequented in the month of October. People experience the marvellous beauty of the mineral springs (which have medicinal properties) and rejuvenate their senses with fantastic massages here. The 2000 year old Janardana Swamy Temple and the Nature Center are the two main attractions of Varkala Beach. This fine beach, situated at Pythal Mala hill station, is the only place in South Kerala where you can see cliffs adjacent to the Arabian Sea. It is also called 'Papanasam Beach', because it is believed that bathing here will wash away all of one's sins.
Sprawling across 25 acres of golden sands, the beautiful Marari beach is popular for fishing. This virgin beach lets you experience the true magic of Ayurveda massages while lying in the bright sun. The entire beach is surrounded by dense greens and one can hear pleasant chirping of birds all day long. If you are an ocean lover, the Bekal beach takes you to the huge Arabian sea with 35 acres of golden white sands. Lying at a close proximity to the Bekal Fort, the beach is about 16 km from Kasaragod town. August to March is considered the best time to visit the Bekal beach.
This beach is particularly popular for its historical significance. This is the place where Vasco De Gama landed on May 07, 1498, with 170 sailors revealing India to the European world. Located 16 km from Kozhikode, the Kappad beach also has a temple that is said to be more than 800 years old.
Located at a close proximity to Thiruvananthapuram, this beach is favourite amongst sunset watchers. One can find an indoor recreation club, the matsya kanyaka (statue of a mermaid) and a starfish shaped restaurant here.
