Popular amongst the tribal communities of the Wayanad Hills, the Valliyoorkkavu Temple is located 3 km from Mananthavady town in Wayanad district. Dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy or Durga, the temple is equally important for nature lovers.
The temple is most frequented in the month of March. This is the time when the local tribes gather here to celebrate the annual festival, Valliyoorkavu Festival, which lasts for 14 days.
If you get a chance to visit the temple during this festival, you can also enjoy the traditional folk dance performances by the local tribes. These performances are accompanied by their local instruments. Another traditional ritual art of Kalamezhuthu is also a popular offering in the temple.
The idol of the deity is believed to be self-manifested. People also visit the place to enjoy the scenic beauty with hillocks and Kabani River.
