Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park

Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park is truly a delight for wildlife seekers. Covering an area of 353 sq km, the Park is rich in wildlife and natural beauty. It is located at a distance of 10 km from Tirupati in the Kadapa and Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh. Its gorgeous green environment, romantic waterfalls like Talakona, Gundalakona and Gunjana , gorges, ridges and valleys add more popularity to it.

Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park was founded in 1989 and was named after Lord Venkateshwara. A home to a variety of wildlife and avian species, the Park is considered to be one of the best Zoological Parks in Andhra Pradesh.

Flora and Fauna

The Park has dry deciduous mixed forests with patches of moist deciduous forests. The Park also boasts of some of the rare plant species such as Red sanders, Shorea talura, Shorea thubuggai, Terminalia pallida, sandalwood, Cycas beddomei, Syzygium alternifolium and many more.

The major attractions of the Park are Mayuravan( the home of the peafowl), Mrugavani (the home of the herbivores, Vrukavihar( the abode of the smaller carnivores). Other wildlife in the Park include ducks, geese, parakeets, manias, flamingos, swans, pelicans, raptors.

Fascinating inhabitants of the Park are tiger, blackbuck, panther, spotted deer, ibex, bison, civet, jackal, wild dogs, Indian giant squirrel and leopard. The Park boasts of around 100 species of birds such as Crested serpent eagle, Indian Roller, kingfishers, White bellied woodpecker etc.
