All of us are seeking happiness in our lives. But the true happiness is something which does not come easy. For that we need to surrender ourselves to the Divine and transform ourselves. Leading people to the path of absolute happiness, the Aurobindo Ashram was established in 1926 by Sri Aurobindo, a great Yoga teacher and a spiritual master, along with his spiritual comrade, the Mother. Later after the death of Sri Aurobindo the Ashram grew under the Mother's guidance. Today the ashram has more than 2000 members.
One of the main attractions of Pondicherry, Aurobindo Ashram is a sacred place where people are taught the right way to live life and attain absolute happiness by getting introduced to their true self. All this is taught through the practice of 'Internal Yoga',which means one must follow whatever spiritual techniques they can relate to.
People are taught sadhana or spiritual discipline in an easy way. There are no mandatory practices, no rituals, no compulsory meditations or systematic instructions in Yoga. People are allowed to grow at their own pace in this ashram. However, the general principal of sadhana is same for all.
One can freely enter the ashram during the visiting hours but an entry to some sections of the ashram is allowed only with a pass. If you are staying in the ashram guest house, then you will get the passes from there itself. But if you are not staying in there, then you can obtain the pass from the Bureau Central Office. As a limited number of rooms are available in the Ashram guest house for visitors, so it is advised to make bookings in advance in case you want to stay there for a day or two .The period between November to March is marked with several celebrations in the ashram.
From the Bureau Central Office one can also obtain videos and books featuring the method of spiritual practice.
